Ex-Black Stars defender John Paintsil weeps at funeral of former teammate Christian Atsu

Former Ghana international, John Painstil, was left inconsolable at the final funeral rites of his former teammate, Christian Atsu.

The two footballers had shared the dressing room together during their time with the Black Stars, and Painstil could not hold back his tears as he paid his last respects to his dear friend.

Atsu, who was named the best player of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, died tragically in Turkey following a massive earthquake that hit the European country on February 6. Despite continuous search efforts, his body was only pulled out of the rubble 12 days later.

The winger had played for several clubs before his untimely death, including FC Porto, Rio Ave, Chelsea, AFC Bournemouth, and Everton. His final contribution to the game was scoring the winning goal for Hatayspor in their match against Kasimpasa.

Atsu had made 65 appearances and scored nine goals for the national team of Ghana.
