Alicia Vikander’s workout to prepare for Tomb Raider

Alicia Vikander trained for months to become Lara Croft and has shared the regime she followed to properly portray the character. Let’s take a look at how she achieved that rock-solid Tomb Raider look.

It must be said that Vikander started her training seven months before the shooting of the film with her personal trainer, Magnus Lygdback. The Swedish actress had to train with ballet dancing and then follow a meal plan that included five meals a day packed with protein, green vegetables, and low carbs. This is what will get you started.

In an interview with E!, Vikander shared some details about what her workouts was like. “I did a lot of months of training, not only cycling but…MMA training, I did some boxing, climbing, swimming…I lifted more weights than I’ve ever done in my life,” Vikander shared. “I loved that it was integrated that she was a very physical being, in the beginning of the story she trains MMA, she works partly as a bicycle courier in London.”

Magnus Lygdback also gave some details of their training. He said Vikander was one of the toughest and most hard-working women he has ever worked with.  He has trained other celebrities such as Katy Perry and Gal Gadot.

“I like to switch it up, so we did everything from squatting heavy and doing deadlifts to pull-ups, push-ups, training with machines, training with bodyweight, plyometrics, explosive training,” Magnus explained to Popsugar. “We covered it all — everything from classic lifting and strength training to more functional stuff.”

One can imagine Alicia training in the gym for hours under Magnus’s supervision, but that was not it.  She would train for only one hour each time because, according to Lygdback, “what doesn’t happen in the first hour won’t happen in the second hour.”
