Drew Barrymore reveals her despondency after divorce

Divorces usually give people this sense of failure in something so important in their lives – something that was supposed to last a lifetime. Drew Barrymore is no stranger to this situation that she describes as a “nightmare.”

After three years of marriage with Will Kopelman, both went their separate ways and now have found themselves co-parenting their two children, Olive, 4, and Frankie, 2. In an interview with Ellen Degeneres last year she shared how she had felt about it all.

“It was just like my worst nightmare,” she said of her divorce. “I so wanted to raise kids in this ultra traditional way and do everything so the polar opposite of my experience.”

However, the former couple has managed to make things work for the sake of the children. Barrymore has found solace in trying to find the bright side of the sad situation. She says that having the proper behavior and being an example for the children makes everything safer for them.

This year in March, Drew Barrymore was promoting the second season of the Netflix dark comedy, Santa Clarita Diet. Before the debut of the show a year ago, you probably did not hear much from her.  That was because, as she explains, she was not really looking for a job at the time.

“I had actually stopped acting for several years because I wanted to raise my kids. But then a shift happened in my life and I was separating from their father and it was just a very difficult time,” Barrymore told NBC’s Willie Geist on “Sunday Today with Willie Geist”.

Speaking of the show, the 43-year-old actress says that it has taught her a valuable life lesson.  “I definitely personally was in a very dark and fearful place and then this script came along and I was like, ‘Yeah I don’t think this is a good time’ and ironically, I think it taught me a valuable life lesson.”
